Delphi On-line Services

Delphi is one of the latest commercial on-line services to carry Air Warrior. Delphi is owned by the same parent company that Kesmai, the makers of air Warrior, is owned by Ruport Mudoch's Newscorp.

If you have any problems, you can contact Delphi client services at: (800) 695-4002.

Rates

Rate plans may have changed since this information was written.

Delphi subscribers can choose between a few different rate plans. The standard plan is the "10/4 plan". This plan offers 4 hours of service for US$10/month, with each additional hour beyond the first 4 costing US$4/hour.

The other plan is the "20/20 Advantage Plan". The plan offers 20 hours of service for US$20/month, with each additional hour beyond the first 20 costing US$1.80/hour. (There is a one-time setup fee of $19 for this plan).

Regardless of what plan you choose, there is a surcharge of US$0.96/hour to use Air Warrior. Here's how the number break out for Air Warrior:

Hours Delphi 4/10 Delphi 20/20
Played Cost Cost/Hour Cost Cost/Hour
==============================================
4 $13.84 $3.46 (1) $23.84 $5.96
5 $18.84 $3.76 (1) $24.80 $4.96
10 $43.60 $4.36 $29.60 $2.96
15 $34.40 $2.29
20 $39.20 $1.96 (2)
25 $53.00 $2.12
40 $94.40 $2.36

(1) Only two cases where the 4/10 plan is cheaper than the
20/20 plan. Actually, GEnie offers a better plan for those
that are infrequent Air Warriors.

(2) Optimum per-hour cost for playing Air Warrior.

How to Sign Up

To signup for Delphi service, you will need a credit card (Visa, Matercard, or Discover), a local Tymnet or Sprintnet access number, or the ability to TELNET. (See the section "How to Connect" for connecting to Delphi.) Once connected to Delphi, enter the following (your responses are in bold):

Username: JOINDELPHI [RETURN]
Password: CUST219 [RETURN]

At this point, you will be run through a sign up script. FYI: Almost any password will do, but Delphi client services uses the password to determine what triggered you to sign up in the first place.

How to Start Air Warrior

Once you have an active username/password, one command line will take you to Air Warrior from the Main Delphi menu (it is assumed you have already downloaded and configured the Air Warrior front end for your machine). From the main menu, type the following (your response is in bold):

MAIN Menu:

Business and Finance Member Directory
Computing Groups News, Weather, and Sports
Conference Reference and Education
Custom Forums Shopping
Entertainment and Games Travel and Leisure
Games Using DELPHI
Groups and Clubs Workspace
Internet Services HELP
Mail EXIT

MAIN>What do you want to do? go ga ga ai pl ma

At this point you will connect to the Air Warrior host and will be in the half-time, NO realism theater. Do youself a favor and type: '/mov 4' to change to the realtime, FULL realism theater.

Connecting to Delphi

There are 4 different ways to connect to Delphi. Out of the 4, the only one not recommended for playing Air Warrior is TELNET. The Internet is too "bursty" for the needs of Air Warrior, and can cause massive delays and warps when flying. [ This may have changed recently. Many are flying from CRIS over the Internet with little problem. ]Here are the 4 different ways to connect and the proper modem and terminal settings to use:

Sprintnet (9600 bps)
Set your modem for 8 bits, no parity, 1 stopbit (8N1). Call your local access number and wait for the modem to make a connection. Once connected, type @D [Return] (the 'at' symbol, followed by a capitol D, followed by the return or enter key). At the TERMINAL: prompt hit return. At the @ prompt, type c delphi [Return]. You should then get the Username: prompt. Here is an example login using Sprintnet (your responses in bold):
CONNECT 9600 [modem response]
@D [Return]
TERMINAL: [Return]
@ c delphi [Return]

Username:
Tymnet (9600 bps)
Set your modem for 8 bits, no parity, 1 stopbit (8N1). Call your local access number and wait for the modem to make a connection. Once connected, wait 5 seconds then type a small o (the letter o).(your responses in bold):
CONNECT 9600 [modem response]
o
Service: delphi [Return]
