Glossary of Air Warrior Terms

accelerated stall
An accellerated stall is nothing more than a stall which occurs at a fairly high speed. Recall that a stall occurs when the angle of attack exceeds the wings maximum for producing lift. This can occur at any speed as it is not speed related.
ack
Another name for AAA or anti-aircraft artillery.
alt
Abbreviation for altitude.
alt monkey
A derogatory term for pilots who fly at extreme altitudes for their own safety, and won't come down to fight even when they have the advantage of altitude and numbers. Also, typically run away when fighters climb up to engage them.
angle of attack
Defines the difference in the direction the wing is pointing and the direction it is travelling. Pulling back or pushing on the stick affects the angle of attack. The more you pull, the greater the angle.
AW
Abbreviation for Air Warrior. Air Wairrior is a registered trademark of Kesmai. Standard disclaimers about unofficial, unsupported, unsanctioned, etc. apply to this book.
buff
Another name for a bomber. Polite form of the acronym is Big Ugly Fat Fellow.
drunks
Another name for the paratroops used to capture fields.
dweeb
A somewhat derogatory, sometimes humorous name for a person new to Air Warrior or a person who doesn't understand what's going on around them. Understanding when it is derogatory versus humorous is usually determined by the context in which it is used. If you shoot a friendly down and they come back up and say "YOU DWEEB!", it's not a commendation. If you follow your eggs into the ground during a jabo run and someone says, "he he. what a dweeb.", have a laugh with them.
dweebcat
A derogatory term for the F6F Hellcat. This is not quite a deserved nickname for this plane. See dweebfire for a history of the term.
dweebfire
A derogatory term for the Spitfire. The spit has a reputation for being a superplane in the arena and the plane of choice for new players. In fact, many players never bother to even learn or try other planes therefore earning it the reputation of being a plane for dweebs.
eggs
Another name for bombs.
FP
Abbreviation for Flak Panzer. An anti-aircraft artillery vehicle.
furball
A dogfight involving many planes.
gooney bird
Nickname for the C-47.
horde warrior
A derogatory term for groups of pilots who fly together in extreme numbers using their numbers and only their numbers (i.e. they have no skill) to overwhelm an enemy.
jabo
A term used to describe tactical bombing typically done in fighters, but occaisionaly with light to medium bombers. Most often associated with dive bombing.
knot Equivalent of nautical mile per hour. A nautical mile is slightly larger than a mile.
kt Abbreviation of knot.
lift
The force produced by a wing which holds a plane up in the air.
mg
mossie
Nickname of the Mosquito twin-engined fighter-bomber (except they took the gun's ammo away in AW, so it's just a light bomber).
Persona Non Grata
If you shoot down too many friendlies, you will be given blanks for ammo. I don't remember if you are allowed to defect to another country or not. The number of friendlies you can kill can be changed, but most of the time it is set to 1 or 2. Just don't do it and you won't have to worry about it.
RTB
Abbreviation for Return To Base.
runstang
A derogatory term used for people who fly the P-51 Mustang (a fast plane) so they can run away rather than fight.
sim
Abbreviated form of simulator.
stall
As you increase the angle of attack (AOA), a wing will produce more lift, but only to a certain point. Beyond this point, the wing stops producing lift. When this happens, the wing is said to be stalled.
vulch
A name which describes a merciless form of killing by hanging out over or around enemy airfields and blowing the enemy away before they can even get off the ground.
