Rear View Lag

Will "Chinook" Christie posted this simplified description of the how and why of time/space distortion affects in the rear view.

I think the problem was more than network lag; it deals with the way that AW calculates the distance between your planes:

In reality your plane is in front, 1000 yards separated:

    -<<-/ .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  -<<=/
Because of whatever maths are done your opponent subtracts either his speed or the difference in your speeds (don't know for sure) from the distance that AW tells it, while you add the distance. So for someone (don't really know who it's based on) who is traveling at 300 kts (kias or ktas?) then your distance in the rear view mirror is 1300 yards (1000+300) while for him the distance is subtracted somehow (1000-300) for 700 yards.
    -<<-/ .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  -<<=/  :What you think

    -<<-/ .  .  .  .  .  .  .  -<<=/                    :What he thinks
Unfortunately just perfect for him for a firing solution. Since his front end will think you are in range for him at that distance then the question arises does GEnie think you deserved to hit him or does it take the actual distance into account? (is this way of thinking about it correct?)
